John Hutchings

John understands the challenges of sectors, the impact and pressures of international markets and on-farm challenges.

John has deep knowledge of central and local government policy, particularly in areas relevant to the primary sector including the constraints and opportunities under the RMA and LGA.

John has significant experience in the tourism sector and has led many collaborative projects throughout New Zealand. He has developed institutional arrangements for many public and private sector clients.

Key practice areas:

• Managing to environmental limits – formerly an advisor on environmental matters to the Prime Minister and Cabinet.

• Public policy – experience working for Local Government New Zealand and the Taranaki Regional Council, John also has a Master of Public Policy degree.

• Stakeholder facilitation – facilitating focus groups to generate clear consensus positions.

• Research and analysis – capacity to research, analyse and clearly communicate findings.

• Environment sustainability – previously Manager, Sustainability with Fonterra – engaging with regions on dairy development potential.
